Building Consent Officer – Processing

About the role | Mō te tūrangaWe're building something exciting – and we want you to be part of it As a Building Consent Officer, you'll play a key role in delivering a professional, efficient, and customer-focused building control service across Co-Lab's member councils. This hands-on role involves processing building consent applications and providing expert technical advice to a wide range of stakeholders. You'll also support the Building Services Team with quality assurance responsibilities.
You'll be doing things like:
- Processing building consents accurately and within statutory timeframes
- Giving clear, timely advice to customers, contractors, and council teams
- Leading technical audits and helping ensure consistent quality across the team
- Supporting complex or high-risk building control matters
- Mentoring other Building Consent Officers and helping the team grow
Some travel to participating councils will be required from time to time.
About you | Mōu
You'll bring:
- A minimum qualification in building consent processing with C1 competency and Regulation 18
- At least 2 years' experience supporting building consent processing staff
- Strong decision-making skills and sound judgement
- Great communication skills and the ability to work well with a wide range of people
- Confidence interpreting complex legislation and technical standards
- Solid knowledge of the Building Act 2004 and NZ Building Code
- Experience using digital systems for consent processing
- A clean, full NZ driver's licence
