We are seeking a permanent 0.6 FTE part-time Counsellor to join our Student Support Services team at EIT. Based at our Taradale Campus Health Centre, this role provides vital counselling services to students and staff, supporting mental health and wellbeing initiatives across campus. You will work collaboratively with internal and external partners to ensure holistic care and contribute to creating a safe, inclusive environment for learning and growth.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $80,000 and $85,000, dependent on skills and experience.

You will be responsible for:

  • Deliver individual counselling and crisis intervention for students and staff.
  • Promote mental health and wellbeing initiatives across campus.
  • Provide guidance to the Wellbeing Advisory Group and facilitate workshops on stress management and resilience.
  • Build and maintain referral networks with external providers and collaborate with Student Support Services for holistic care.
  • Ensure confidentiality and ethical standards in all counselling practices.
  • Assist with academic accommodations for students with mental health challenges.
  • Contribute to staff training on mental health awareness and wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with institutional policies.
  • Support a healthy workplace through safe practices and personal wellbeing strategies.
  • Undertake additional tasks as required by the position manager.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A recognised counselling qualification and current professional registration.
  • Experience providing counselling and crisis intervention in diverse settings.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
  • Cultural competence and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all practices.
