We are looking for a hands on retail assistant to support the store our newly opened Op Shop in Whangamata. This is an exciting opportunity for someone ready to be involved in building something from the ground up, establishing a high-preforming, community focused store that supports SPCA's mission to care for animals in need.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity at our Whangamata Op Shop for a:

• Op Shop Assistant
• Part time - 16 hours per week
• Friday and Saturday 8.45am-5.15pm as well as flexibility to cover leave and busy periods.

Key Responsibilities

• Working alongside the store manager to support daily shop operations.
• Receive, sort, price, and merchandise donated goods in line with SPCA guidelines.
• Ensure the shop is clean, welcoming, and well-stocked throughout the day.
• Serve customers with warmth and professionalism, promoting positive donor and shopper experiences.
• Accurately process sales and cash handling, including end-of-day reconciliation.
• Provide cover and basic team supervision in the manager's absence.
• Help support and guide volunteers in their roles.
• Ensure health & safety and SPCA procedures are followed.

ABOUT YOU

You're a team player with a passion for great service and a knack for retail. Whether it's pricing donated goods, helping customers, or supporting volunteers, you enjoy pitching in wherever needed to keep things running smoothly.

Skills & Experience

• Retail or customer service experience (charity retail a bonus).
• Confident working sole charge and making operational decisions when required.
• Able to work flexibly across the shop floor, till, and sorting area.
• Confident communicator who enjoys helping others.
• Reliable, organised, and proactive with good attention to detail.
• Comfortable working in a team and independently.
• Physically fit and able to lift/move stock as required.
