Wellington Central, Wellington, New Zealand Tu Ora Compass Health Full time

We are seeking Nurse Practitioner Leads to join the Nurse Practitioner Training Support Scheme (NPTSS) project team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

Tū Ora Compass Health is part of a newly established consortium of six Primary Health Organisations (PHOs) working together to deliver the NPTSS. This nationally coordinated, regionally responsive Scheme is designed to support nurses during the final year of their Nurse Practitioner (NP) training and the first 6 months following registration.

Our six PHOs are recognised as strategic influencers within the health system. Collectively, we support more than 450 general practices across key regions providing reach, local insight and sector expertise. We will collaborate with other parts of the health sector nationally and regionally who may employ NP trainees as part of this programme.

As a collective, we are committed to ensuring the NPTSS is scalable, equitable, and responsive to the diverse needs of NP trainees, including those working in urban, rural and isolated communities across Aotearoa.

Applicants based anywhere from Wellington to Hawke's Bay are encouraged to apply. We're also open to discussing full-time or part-time arrangements.

About The Role

As the Nurse Practitioner Lead, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting the next generation of Nurse Practitioners through the NPTSS programme. Providing clinical leadership, mentorship, and operational oversight, you'll ensure each trainee and practice placement is well matched, well supported, and set up for success.

This is an opportunity to shape the future of advanced nursing practice while championing equitable health outcomes for Māori, Pacific, and priority populations across Aotearoa.

What You'll Do

• Act as the key link between trainees, employers, academic providers, and the consortium, offering clinical leadership and problem-

solving.

• Oversee trainee progress and embed sustainable clinical practice improvements.

• Provide access to supervision, mentoring, and uphold quality clinical standards.

• Ensure the programme is culturally safe, equitable, and impactful for all.

What You'll Bring

• Current Nurse Practitioner registration with at least 5 years' experience in primary, community, mental health or relevant secondary

care setting.

• Proven clinical leadership and mentoring experience within complex or multi-stakeholder environments.

• Strong relationship management and communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across sectors.

• Sound understanding of health inequities and commitment to advancing equitable outcomes for Māori and Pacific Peoples.

• Exceptional organisational and critical appraisal skills with a proactive, solution-focused approach.

• Deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its practical application within healthcare.

• Resilient, adaptive, and passionate about supporting the development of the Nurse Practitioner workforce.
