Agile Tech Lead

Information Tools Limited (an IPSOS company) is in the business of providing software and services for the analysis of market research, survey, and other data. The Product Development Group (PDG) is the custodian of our cloud software, Harmoni. The PDG has responsibility for the seamless design, development, deployment, and hosting of user-friendly software to our corporate clients around the world and our internal team of users. The Team operates in multiple regions, across several functional areas, so a strong leader with demonstrable Agile delivery experience will take a core position in the PDG leadership.

Purpose

The PDG is organised around key functional/technical areas of the Harmoni platform. This allows expertise in those areas to be nurtured, while also having broad and general knowledge of other and interconnected areas of the platform. The Agile Tech Lead role takes a cornerstone position in one of these areas (or a combination of) and is responsible for the planning, SDLC, and ultimately the timely delivery of items under their remit.

The Agile Technical Lead provides core leadership in technical planning, design, development, and support of solutions within their particular platform area. Working with other PDG leaders, they also provide important input into the methods and standards of development for the PDG overall.

They provide advice and mentoring to developers to enable them to carry out their role effectively and grow their technical and software development skills. They also provide pastoral care for their team members to help them develop as professionals, and help guide their careers within Infotools and the wider corporate environment. Additionally, they will work closely with and promote strong collaboration between all roles interacting in their space. This can include (but not limited to) Design, UX, QA, Development, DevOps, and Support.

Primary duties and responsibilities

  • Work closely with all members of the PDG and wider Infotools organisation (Architects, UX/UI Designers, Product, CS team members), relevant user groups, and other appropriate stakeholders to understand requirements, as well as design, development, or support issues, and their priority in relation to delivery.

  • Ensure Agile methodologies, ceremonies, and agreements are consistently applied within the area of leadership and assisting to instil these across the entire PDG working closely with other senior and leadership roles.

  • Take core responsibility for the allocation, assignments, and delivery of items in relation to sprint planning and support cycles.

  • Provide input to technical solution concepts and design, based on requirements for the identified areas of development. Provide estimates for development deliverables and system deployment tasks.

  • Lead development and testing of solutions, both directly and by leading their team of developers, ensuring adherence to the relevant methods and standards.

  • Provide ongoing technical support and development of solutions.

  • Assist developers in their design, development, and testing activities, answering questions and providing technical advice as and when required.

  • Seek technical assistance from subject matter experts where relevant to ensure the optimal solutions are being developed, particularly as they relate to other areas of the Platform.

  • Maintain familiarity with the range of technologies used throughout the PDG software development.

  • Provide input to, use, and promote the creation and maintenance of company coding and design standards.

  • Look for opportunities to provide training, guidance, management, mentoring, and support to their team, and ensure a development plan exists for each team member.

  • Conduct ongoing informal, as well as annual formal, performance reviews with team members.

  • Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures, including self-management and early reporting for the prevention of workplace injuries.

Essential

  • At least 6 – 10 years related developer experience.

  • Able to work at a system design & development level.

  • Able to communicate with technical and non-technical staff to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Able to lead, coach, and manage other developers.

  • Experience with the software development lifecycle & associated management disciplines, especially Agile development methodologies.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a sound understanding of the English language.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in organisational skills, especially as it relates to software delivery.

  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively, autonomously, and under time pressures.

  • Demonstrated ability to pick up new systems and learn quickly.

  • The ability to work on and solve complex data issues.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Open, honest communication style.

  • A willingness to take ownership.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with as many as possible of the following technologies/tools:

  • C#

  • LINQ

  • HTML, CSS

  • Angular

  • ASP.NET

  • SQL Server

  • Transact-SQL

Desirable

  • Exposure to .Net Core and associated web application development

  • Exposure to Continuous Integration/ Continuous Delivery processes and practises

  • Exposure with deployment and management of applications in AWS/GCP/Azure

  • Previous experience of working in the market research sector

  • Previous experience of work-flow concepts, principles and technologies

Desirable

  • Agile accreditation, SCRUM Master and/or Project Management

  • Supporting MS and/or systems accreditation and certifications

  • AWS certification

  • AzureCloud certification

  • GCP certification
