St Margaret's College is seeking a Deputy Head of College – Wellbeing to join our leadership team in this important and rewarding role.

About Us

St Margaret's College is an independent residential College affiliated with the University of Otago. We have a rich tradition of academic excellence and a strong commitment to fostering a positive collegiate culture. The College provides accommodation and pastoral support to a vibrant community of over 220 undergraduate students, predominantly first-years.

About the Role

As Deputy Head of College – Wellbeing, you will work closely with the Head of College and Deputy Head of College – Academic to provide strong leadership and ensure the continued positive organisational culture of St Margaret's College.

You will play a key role in leading the pastoral and collegial life of the College and will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide pastoral care and wellbeing support to College Members
  • Support students through a wide range of personal, social, academic, and wellbeing challenges
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful collegiate culture
  • Support and oversee the Members' Association Executive Committee and student-led activities
  • Assist with the leadership, training, and support of College Leaders (RAs)
  • Deputise for the Head of College when required
  • Contribute to major College events and the smooth running of residential life
  • Work collaboratively with University services, families/whānau, and external providers
  • Oversee the College's conference operations and support College marketing and recruitment

This role includes some evening and weekend work and a fortnightly on-call component, reflecting the nature of residential college life.

What We're Looking For

  • A relevant university degree
  • Strong leadership skills and an understanding of residential collegiate life and the university environment
  • Empathy and well-developed pastoral care skills for working with young adults
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven experience in senior secondary or tertiary education, supporting young adults in complex social situations
  • The ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders
  • A high level of initiative, energy, and commitment, with a collaborative and inclusive approach
  • Technological literacy and strong attention to detail
  • Ethical and moral standards of the highest level
