Mitai Māori Village is looking for an exceptional Host & Tour Guide on a part-time basis to join our team, reporting to the Visitor Experience Manager.
Mitai Māori Village is a proudly whānau-owned and operated business rooted in the heart of Rotorua. We are guardians of Māori culture, offering manuhiri (visitors) from around the world an authentic, immersive experience of te ao Māori through kapa haka, traditional kai, waka taua, and storytelling. Every element of the experience is delivered with deep respect for our culture, our ancestors, and our land.
Our kaupapa is driven by our commitment to cultural integrity, manaakitanga (hospitality), and excellence in all we do. We believe in sharing not just our stories, but our spirit — ensuring every guest feels welcomed, enriched, and connected.
Role and Responsibilities- Welcome and guide guests through the full Mitai Māori Village experience
- Deliver engaging cultural commentary during forest walks, kapa haka introductions, and dining experiences
- Share Māori stories, customs, and traditions with accuracy and respect
- Provide exceptional customer service and uphold the values of manaakitanga
- Ensure smooth transitions between experience segments and coordinate with other teams
- Support the setup and pack-down of guest areas as needed
- Respond to guest queries and feedback with professionalism and warmth
- Minimum 1–2 years experience in tourism, hospitality, or customer service
- Confident public speaking and storytelling abilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Passion for Māori culture and willingness to learn and share
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Speaks Te Reo Māori or actively learning
- Previous experience in cultural tourism or guiding
- Warm, engaging personality with a strong sense of whanaungatanga
- Comfortable working outdoors and in dynamic environments
