**General drainlayer duties**:
They may include cleaning and preparing a job site, loading and delivering materials, and using a variety of tools and machines such as blowtorches, forklifts, levels, lifts, power drills, grinders, saws, pressure washers, and water spraying equipment

Keeps health and safety “top of mind” at all times. Considers every aspect of the work day (from driving the vehicle, to operating equipment, to awareness of hazards that customers or the public may be exposed to) and follows all established safety procedures and techniques.

Working with supervisor/s and others as appropriate, plans and organises the day to be as productive as possible. Thinks about the job and ensures all the necessary tools and equipment are taken to the site, and then returns the same on completion of the job.

**Primary Tasks**:
Site Inspection: Assessing the construction site to determine the layout and location for drainage systems. Accurately read blueprints and drawings to understand or plan the layout of drainage, waste disposal and water supply systems

Excavation: Digging trenches and holes to install pipes and drainage systems according to the project specifications. Locate and repair issues with drainage supply lines (e.g. leaks)

Pipe Installation: Laying pipes in the trenches, ensuring proper alignment, grade, and connections. Cut, assemble and install pipes and tubes with attention to existing infrastructure. Install and maintain drainage supply systems. Repair or replace broken drainage lines, clogged drains, faucets etc.

Pipe Joining: Using various methods such as welding, gluing, or sealing to join pipes together securely.

Backfilling: Filling the trenches with soil or other materials after the pipes are installed to secure them in place.

Levelling and Grading: Ensuring that the surface around the drainage system is properly leveled and graded to facilitate water flow.

Testing: Conducting pressure tests and inspections to ensure the integrity and functionality of the drainage system.

Repair and Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance tasks such as clearing debris, unclogging pipes, and repairing any damages to the drainage system.

Documentation: Keeping detailed records of work performed, materials used, and any changes or modifications made to the drainage system. Keep accurate time and cost records and completes/submits these in a timely manner as requested.

Communication: Collaborating with other construction workers, supervisors, and project managers to coordinate work activities and ensure the successful completion of drainage projects.

**Secondary Tasks**:
Material Procurement: Ordering, receiving, and organizing materials needed for drainage projects, including pipes, fittings, and other equipment.

Safety Compliance: Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and procedures on the construction site, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols during excavation and pipe installation.

Project Planning: Assisting in project planning and coordination, developing work schedules, and collaborating with other construction professionals to ensure smooth project execution.

Equipment Maintenance: Ensuring that tools and machinery are properly maintained and in good working condition to effectively perform drainlaying and unblocking tasks.

Client Communication: Providing clear communication with clients about the scope of work, potential issues, and necessary follow-up steps to prevent future blockages or drainage problems.

Must have a a 'can do' attitude and keen to learn.
