The University of Auckland’s Faculty of Engineering and Design is one of six faculties that make up the University of Auckland. Located on Symonds Street, it is a leading centre for research, innovation, and education across engineering, architecture, urban planning, and design. With over 5,000 students across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the faculty fosters critical thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration and creative problem-solving.

Purpose-built facilities, including the state-of-the-art engineering building that opened in 2019, the architecture and design workshops and our expanding presence at the Newmarket Campus, support hands-on learning. These spaces advance research fields and enhance transdisciplinary partnerships in many areas, such as advanced materials, sustainable infrastructure, emerging technologies, and design innovation.

Our core mission at the Faculty of Engineering and Design is to provide a unique and dynamic learning environment. We encourage engagement with industry, government, and research institutions to create strong connections. This ensures that our graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge to shape the future of engineering, architecture, urban planning and design.
