Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital is currently seeking experienced, positive and dynamic Registered Nurses for the position of Patient Flow Coordinator within the Emergency Department (ED).
This is an excellent opportunity to join our enthusiastic and dynamic team and to gain experience in managing patients, department flow and staff.
As the Patient Flow Coordinator in ED you will be responsible for coordination of the following activities to enhance patient flow and management of bed occupancy through the Emergency Department:
- To liaise and coordinate people, systems and resources to facilitate patient transfer
- To ensure the safe, appropriate and timely movement of patients from ED to the appropriate destination
- To provide detailed information around barriers to patient flow and be an active participant in identifying strategies to mitigate barriers identified in conjunction with leadership teams
- To provide education around and reinforcement of escalation pathways that have been agreed by relevant stakeholders
- To work in partnership with acute admitting registrars to coordinate the ‘acute take’ patient journey, taking into account already established internal professional standard times (IPS)
- Assist in the development of specific pathways that will further enhance and streamline flow
- To develop relationships across the inpatient units that facilitate flow, interacting daily with the ward coordinators, Clinical Nurse Coordinator Transit Lounge and Duty Manager to identify bed availability and enhance flow out of the emergency department
Whilst this role is located primarily in the ED, this role is not expected to contribute to the management of patient cares or workloads (it is not an additional direct clinical resource within ED).
