**Firstly, a bit about us**:
Airways provides air traffic management services across 30 million square kilometres - this is one of the largest areas of airspace in the world. Our people manage this airspace by providing air traffic control, surveillance, communication, flight inspection, mapping and airspace design services. We work with government, regulatory authorities, airlines, airports and the general aviation community to ensure pilots, passengers and goods reach their destination - safely.

We are almost unique globally because we design our own air traffic management system. That means we write and maintain the code that runs our mission critical systems. That’s pretty cool but it requires a seriously strong attention to detail and systematic approach to development, while still looking to the latest enhancements through continuous improvement.

**About the role**:
Aviation is in a phase of very rapid transformation: UAVs, AI/ML, satellite based navigation and digital towers will change our landscape over the next little while and here at Airways, we’re always striving to make our services always safe and ever more responsive, flexible, and fit-for-the future. The Air Traffic Services Development (ATSD) Unit develops and maintains the mission critical software that drives Airways Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems. There are three software engineering teams, an ATM engineering team, and an Air Navigation Services (ANS) requirements team. You'll be responsible for leading these five teams to ensuring efficient and high-quality outcomes and to set the strategy for the unit to support the overall company strategy.

Reporting directly to our Chief Information Officer, this permanent full-time role will provide the day-to-day functional and strategic leadership for all of our software teams. You will be part of the Airways Senior Leadership group and a member of the Technology Group Management Team. This position is better known inside Airways as (Manager Air Traffic Services Development).

**To be successful, you'll need to have**:

- Senior Leadership experience, including direct line management and the proven ability to lead and inspire technical teams.
- Significant, demonstrated software development expertise, preferably with mission critical systems.
- Strategic thinking skills and excellent analytical capability.
- Experience with building and maintaining a highly engaged team, being visible and getting to know your team
- Proven success in driving change in a technical environment such as a software team and the proven ability to deliver business improvement
