Cyclone Gabrielle has had a significant impact on the infrastructure, environment and communities in our region. This is why HBRC is boosting the capacity in its Infrastructure Programme Management Office (IPMO) - a dedicated team of experts who are actively engaged in recovery work - so that we can deliver for our communities and our environment. The Construction Manager role is a fixed term (up to 2 years), full-time position that will require you to be based in Hawke’s Bay as part of a wider delivery team in the IPMO. The Construction Manager will focus on overseeing and guiding the successful delivery of civil and horizontal infrastructure projects, ensuring that designs are fit for purpose, executable and align with relevant design standards, NIWE funding agreements, and NZS3910 contract requirements. You’ll work closely with project managers and design consultants, contributing expertise throughout pre-construction and construction phases to ensure projects meet required standards and objectives.

To succeed in this role, you’ll have a relevant tertiary qualification in either Engineering, Construction Management or a related field, alongside a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a similar role or industry - civil construction, with a focus on horizontal infrastructure. Additionally, you’ll have experience managing large scale construction projects and/or programmes ($10M+), with expertise in horizontal infrastructure such as roads, water, and wastewater systems. A strong understanding of construction methodologies and a proven track record managing projects under NZS3910 contracts is essential. Equally important is a collaborative mindset, strong organisational skills, and an appreciation of how tikanga Māori and Māori values relate to Regional Council functions.
