The aim of our Infrastructure Regulation branch is to make New Zealanders better off through the economic regulation of monopoly infrastructure in
Aotearoa. We are looking for a technical specialist to join the team responsible for Data and Information Disclosure (ID). This is a permanent position, based in our Wellington or Auckland office with flexible working options available.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
The use of data is increasingly affecting every aspect of our lives. Our Infrastructure Regulation branch is no different. This is why we are looking for someone to provide leadership and technical skills in data and information management as well as interpretation and improvement of complex regulatory documents and frameworks to help set our projects up for success.
Reporting to the Manager, Data and Information Disclosure (ID), you will play a leadership role in our Data and ID team and shape how we undertake this role. Our Chief Advisers often tackle the most important issues, and work closely with analysts to ensure our work considers the wider context and delivers on the Commission's priorities.
You will form part of a dedicated, collaborative and hardworking team and help guide them to
- Analyse issues and propose solutions
- collect and manage data to support the branch and external interested parties,
- set and maintain Information Disclosure requirements for all regulated sectors, and
- respond to complex enquiries about the disclosures.

To be successful in this role you will be a natural leader as well as a team player used to working in a multi-disciplinary environment. You will be proactive and solutions-focused and be able to think, write and communicate clearly for a wide range of audiences. You will be passionate about what can be achieved with the right data.

**We are looking for someone with**:

- experience at interpreting and explaining complex documents and frameworks
- strategic experience in use of data and information management
- proven project management experience, and a track record of delivering
- the ability to think strategically, and to manage and prioritise a portfolio of work
- an in-built drive to get things done
- the ability to use different information and data sources to draw insights and conclusions
- strong experience in writing about complex issues simply
- well-developed relationship management skills
- an understanding of economic regulation and/or experience in electricity, gas, fuel, telecommunications, or government regulation (preferable, but not essential)
- experience with compliance and enforcement work and/or monitoring the performance of different sectors (preferable, but not essential).
