Te Tūranga | About the role

Working closely alongside the newly elected Mayor and Councillors, the Chief Executive, the Executive Leadership Team, and staff across the organisation, you will be responsible for providing high quality advice, support, and guidance on governance matters.

The role requires proficiency and experience in local government governance processes along with the ability to provide sound leadership to the Governance Services team of two Governance Advisors and a Governance Administrator and ensure the smooth functioning of Council and Committee meetings.

This is a unique role and is a fantastic opportunity to bring your governance skills and experience to our fast growing city

You will join a diverse and passionate bunch who work hard to put the community at the heart of everything we do. Reporting to the Manager: Democracy and Governance Services, this is a permanent full-time position of 40 hours per week.

Ngā Pukenga | What you'll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you'll bring;
- A degree with a background in law, arts, political science or public policy, or 5 years' equivalent experience in a governance position or similar.
- A high degree of political nous and the ability to work with, advise, and influence a wide range of people.
- Experience in local government governance advisor work or similar.
- Understanding of the local government sector and the challenges of governance.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of key local government legislation and Standing Orders.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to be super organised and able to manage multiple meetings, projects, and priorities with ease.
- An understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
