About the opportunity
As the government's system lead on transport, the Ministry has an important role to ensure transport improves wellbeing and liveability for New Zealanders. Key to this is having robust evidence about how the transport system is meeting its desired outcomes.
We are looking for a part-time Research Assistant to help our Research, Economics and Evaluation team with a range of interesting research and evaluation tasks. These include assisting the preparation of a range of monitoring and evaluation reports. These reports involved monitoring and evaluating how the transport system is performing (including land transport, active travel, aviation, and maritime) and will be used by councils, Crown agencies, and the Ministry to inform future policy decisions.
**The role will include**:
- Stakeholder engagement including liaising with both internal and external stakeholders to collect data, research, evidence, information
- Compiling evidence, information and data tables and checking for consistency
- Assisting with some administrative function of setting up Transport Knowledge Hub events (eg publishing notice using EventBrite)
- Completing literature search and review, data requests, basic analysis, development of new data capture mechanisms
- Basic data cleaning and analysis using Excel
What you'll bring
- Basic data manipulation and analytical skills including experience with Excel (ability to use R would be an advantage)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent attention to detail, strong record keeping and organisational skills
What we offer
The role is for approximately 15 hours per week. Hours are negotiable and there is the possibility for an extension to 30 hours per week during University summer break (December to February). We offer attractive pay at $25-28/hour, depending on experience. The role is based at the Ministry's Wellington office.
