We are seeking a Research Analyst to conduct rigorous economic and policy research supporting our mission to develop evidence-based policy recommendations. This is a permanent, full-time position based in Wellington.

You will work under the supervision of the Executive Director, conducting independent economic and policy research on New Zealand's economic development, public policy, and institutional reform. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to New Zealand's most influential think tank and develop expertise in public policy development and economic analysis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


• Conduct independent economic and policy research on New Zealand's economic development, public policy, and institutional reform


• Analyse quantitative data using statistical software (R, STATA) to investigate policy questions and evaluate programmes


• Produce research reports, policy briefs, analytical articles, and submissions to government inquiries


• Review academic literature and international policy experiences to inform research projects


• Write regular commentary for the organisation's publications


• Support stakeholder engagement activities and research events


• Present research findings to internal and external audiences

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS


• Bachelor degree (Honours) in Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, or related field OR minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in policy research, economic analysis, or related fields


• Demonstrated proficiency in statistical analysis software (R and/or STATA)


• Proven experience conducting independent research projects


• Strong written communication skills with published examples of policy or economic analysis


• Advanced quantitative and analytical skills


• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects


• Excellent verbal communication skills


• Attention to detail and commitment to research rigour

DESIRABLE


• Experience working in think tanks, research institutes, or policy organisations


• Knowledge of econometric methods and causal inference techniques


• Experience with LaTeX, HTML, or other technical writing tools


• Published articles or research in peer-reviewed journals or policy publications


• Familiarity with free-market economic thought and classical liberal philosophy


• Understanding of New Zealand policy environment

WHAT WE OFFER

Location: Wellington, New Zealand

Hours: Full-time permanent position, 40 hours per week guaranteed. Standard business hours 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday

Salary: $80,000 per annum gross
