Dunedin City Council is looking to appoint a talented Waste Planning Advisor (WPA)
- Community Groups to the Waste and Environmental Solutions Business Unit for a two year fixed term. We are looking for someone with a background in environmental management, policy, communications, community engagement. Either way you will be great with people and passionate about sustainability, the environment, and keeping Dunedin beautiful.

The WPA - Community Groups will contribute to, and where appropriate lead, the development of a strategic approach to building community networks, coordinating with community groups, and developing a strategic approach for these resources and resource recovery networks. Supporting the delivery of Dunedin City Council's Waste Minimisation and Management Plan, the position will help to build community resilience by reducing reliance on imported material, reduce carbon emissions by reducing the need for new products, and reduce waste to landfill.

**Key Objectives**
- Waste Strategy - to develop strategies and policies for waste management and minimisation within the City.
- Community Engagement - to effectively engage with the community to promote resource recovery and waste minimisation behaviour.
- Customer Service - to address the needs, aims, and aspirations of residents and community groups within the scope of the Waste Minimisation and Management Plan.
- Strategic Planning and Direction - In consultation with the Group Manager and Waste Minimisation Supervisor, lead external engagement across a range of disciplines to provide expert input into strategy and policy development, including preparation of project briefs.
- Promote waste minimisation practice within the community to guide Dunedin towards a low emission, low waste region built upon a circular economy.

**Ideally you will have**
- A Post-graduate qualification in a related field
- Previous experience with developing policy and strategies
- Previous experience in facilitating meetings and workshops
- Demonstrates leadership, enthusiasm, is approachable, relatable, organised and able to motivate and facilitate active participation in waste minimisation programmes

In addition to the above, you will have good planning and organisational skills, good written and oral communication skills, the ability to talk to groups, give presentations, demonstrations and influence behaviour change, and the ability to plan and deliver effectively in a complex and sometimes pressured environment.
