**Nourish, connect, and welcome.**
We're looking for a skilled and motivated **Kitchen Manager** to take on a key role at **Arowhenua Marae** (**Te Rūnanga o Arowhenua)**. This position is central to the life of the marae - preparing kai that brings people together and reflects the values of manaakitanga and whanaungatanga.
**About the Role**
This is a permanent, full-time role with 30 hours guaranteed each week.
Some weeks will be busier depending on bookings and events. Your adaptable nature will mean you can flex up or down as required
Events and bookings vary from weekdays to evenings and weekends, so you must be available to work at those times. This means that you will have 'downtime' to enjoy in between and can plan your week accordingly.
As the Kitchen Manager, you will coordinate all catering and kitchen operations for hui, wānanga, and events, liaising closely with the Marae Manager. You'll plan menus, lead ringawera and volunteers, manage supplies and budgets, and ensure strict food safety and hygiene standards are met.
You will respectfully observe tikanga and kawa (protocols) to provide a safe and welcoming environment for whānau and guests.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead and support kitchen teams and volunteers
- Plan menus to suit each event and group, including dietary requirements
- Manage ordering, stock control, and budgets
- Uphold tikanga Māori and marae kawa in all activities
- Maintain excellent food safety and hygiene practices
- Foster teamwork, inclusion, and a positive kitchen environment
**About You**
You'll be someone who loves bringing people together through kai and takes pride in doing things the right way - with care, organisation, and respect.
You'll also bring:
- Proven experience in large-scale cooking or catering
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Familiarity with tikanga Māori and marae protocols
- Calm, reliable, and respectful working style
- Sound knowledge of food safety practices
- Full, clean New Zealand driver's licence
**Why You'll Love It**
This isn't just a job - it's a chance to make a difference every day. You'll work in a supportive, whānau-based environment where culture and community are at the heart of everything. Your mahi will help uphold the mana of Arowhenua and ensure their whānau and manuhiri are well cared for.
**How to Apply**:
Send your CV and a short cover letter telling us why you are our next Kitchen Manager.
Applications close Sunday 16 November.
