With our season fast approaching, and we are seeking an efficient team to pack various fish species on our manual line, ready for shipping. This advertisement is for 10 positions.

This is a full-time fixed term position for 7 months.

You will be paid $25.51 per hour, on a weekly basis.

**You will be expected to work a minimum of 30 hours per week Monday through Saturday, 7:00am 5:00pm. However, as this is within our season you will understand the days and hours of work may change to meet the demands of the business and may work a maximum of 45 hours each week.**:
This role is based in the Bay of Plenty.

Due to the nature of the role and working environment a Drug & Alcohol Testwill apply.

**Purpose**

Various pelagic fish species arrive to the Factory from the Port throughout each day, and downloaded into the factory.

Upon arrival the processing crew are ready at each weigh station, to sort, grade, inspect and pack the fish into cartons ready for delivery and or transfer to internal chillers and freezers.

For ease and adding variation to the role, it covers a variety of tasks throughout the processing operation and broken down into sections. The team are based at a station and moved around to provide the variation and add to their learnings/skills.

**Principal responsibilities**
- The packing of fish must comply with food safety standards
- Creation of boxes / lids and liners for the fish to be packed in to
- Bin Tipping sort / grade and inspect the fish for size and quality i.e., 1st, 2nds, 3rds and or damaged product
- Work in a systematic, methodical way to achieve a high output of work to achieve a steady flow of fish to the processing line.
- Should the flow of fish to the processing line build up, the flow will stop and or slowed down to allow the team to catch up.
- At each assigned station there is a scale.

The carton base, with the lining, is placed on the scale one at a time. As the fish comes past you on the processing line, you pick up the fish and place it in the carton to the required weight (20kg or 25kg)

Grade and pack the fish according to orders (destination and in 20kg or 25kg cartons)

Remove any damaged product / seconds (do not pack product for shipping)
- Once scales display and record the desired weight, move the carton off the scales and push along the line.
- At the next station another team member can place the lid and strap the carton to secure it for delivery and or be transferred to the chiller/freezer.
- Another team member will load finished packed cartons onto stillages (manual handling)
- Check and report of any damaged product or cartons of all products
- Cleaning and sanitising work areas and equipment to comply with MPI / Food standards through training as directed by Quality & Compliance
- Any other duties as reasonably requested to assist other areas within Pelco to ensure the efficiencies throughout the operational process

- Workstations are close to each other to achieve a common goal and maintain a steady method.
- Communicate and listen to the team
- Use in provide sound and timely advice to the Factory Lead Hand e.g., should you observe a breakdown, running short of supplies and so on.
- Be resourceful and capable of improvising under often demanding circumstances
- Collaborative be readily available to the team to be hands on in times of need, cover and absence

**Ideally you will have the following skills/qualifications/attributes**:

- Experience in food processing/packaging goods and materials.
- This role requires hands-on involvement, an eagerness to learn is ideal.
- Fast with your hands with good hand and eye co-ordination
- Be a team enjoy working with and helping others.
- Health, safety and wellbeing awareness
- Open to flexibility when required.
