**About the Role**
We have an opportunity available to join our team as a Public Health Nurse in a permanent part-time role (0.5FTE), based in Wairoa Te Matau a Māui (Hawke's Bay) in Te Ikaroa - Central Region, NPHS.
This role delivers a range of services, including immunisation programmes, communicable disease management, and school-based health services to tamariki and rangatahi. The role requires a high level of competence and autonomy while working to the top of scope in education and community settings, providing nursing care to clients tamariki, rangatahi and whānau with a range of needs.
Work in partnership with tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau, school communities and early learning centres, Te Kohanga Reo, and collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to provide quality nursing care that is safe, cost-effective and in accordance with professional, organisational standards, policy and procedure.
**About the Team/Service/ Location**
The public health nursing team is part of the National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora and works towards Pae Ora (healthy futures for all) by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
The Public Health Nursing Team is a small team of 3 nurses and 1 community health worker based at Wairoa Hospital Health, which is a rural health centre. The team delivers a range of both population health and primary health care services, including immunisation programmes. The team have a health promotion and disease prevention focus, with particular emphasis on the needs of children and adolescents in the Early Learning Services and school settings.
Wairoa is surrounded by picturesque farmland and the sea nearby. Lake Waikaremoana is 50km away from Wairoa with walking tracks, fishing, and Mahia Beach hosts good surfing, diving and fishing.
**About you**
You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels and model an agile approach; you learn quickly, adapt fast. You can utilise advanced nursing knowledge and skills through reflective practice, critical thinking and professional judgement to provide competent care and advice while working to top of scope. Your knowledge and experience in child & youth health and development, is equipped with the clinical knowledge and skills relevant to tamariki & rangatahi's health and wellbeing.
- Current registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand as Registered Nurse and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate
- 3+ years clinical experience, must be an authorised vaccinator (preferably Whole of Life) and demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise and clinical judgement, particularly when working with children and adolescents
- Hold a minimum of a competent portfolio in an approved PDRP or equivalent with a commitment to continue through the programme
- Full New Zealand drivers' licence
- Ability to work within a team and autonomously in a rural setting
- Proven experience and competence using Patient Management Systems
- An eye for detail and commitment for continuous quality improvement
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
