We are Aotearoa New Zealand's privacy regulator, a small, independent Crown entity charged with promoting and protecting individual privacy and the safe use of personal information.

The role | Ko tā mātou mahi
Data privacy impacts everyone. Come join us as a Senior Policy Adviser, as part of a team that leads policy work initiated by the Privacy Commissioner into significant issues of public concern, and on new and emerging privacy risks and threats. The team also leads thinking and provides high quality advice about the implications of new initiatives, technologies, government policy, legislation, and business and other developments relating to privacy. Your work will inform the policy positions taken by the Privacy Commissioner.

You will be required to provide very high-quality policy advice that is intellectually rigorous, well-judged, and be able to identify effective and innovative policy solutions to deliver the best privacy outcomes for the highest public benefit. You need the skill and experience to lead and manage large or complex pieces of policy work or projects, be able to supervise, coach and mentor less experienced policy staff, help build policy capability, and provide quality assurance across the policy team. You must also have the thought and systems leadership to assist with the design, implementation and evaluation of the team's strategic goals and business plans, and the continuous improvement of its systems and processes.

What you need to bring | Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu
- 3 - 5 years' policy experience
- Relevant qualifications and policy experience
- Excellent analytical, communications and relationship building skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- A keen interest in the interactions between privacy, law, and policy
- The ability to work effectively under pressure
- The ability to build and maintain co-operative and collegial working relationships
- You must have an inquisitive mind, common sense and sound judgement
- Respect for Te Ao Maori perspectives on the use and protection of personal information.

You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand to be considered for this role.
