Odyssey House Christchurch and Purapura Whetū are proud to advertise an opportunity for a whānau worker role within our prison-based programmes. We work together providing holistic health and wellbeing programmes within a multi-disciplinary team to support tangata whaiora affected by problematic alcohol and other drug (AOD) use challenges.
As a Whānau worker, you will join a team of clinical, peer support and cultural staff, providing a multi-disciplinary approach to working with our client group.
**In this role, you will**
- Work collaboratively and inclusively to assess needs to achieve positive outcomes and whānau satisfaction
- Build rapport and sound foundation for development of individual whānau plans to determine and prioritise presenting needs in conjunction with the whānau
- Advocate for clients across a range of services necessary for the achievement of whānau goals
- Delivering education and therapeutic groups within the prison and comunity
- Ensuring interactions, processes and resources related to whānau are informed by Te Tiriti O Waitangi and its principles
**To be successful in this role, you will**
- Relevant whānau work experience, including experience of providing whānau support in a health, social services, addictions and/or mental health care setting
- Understanding of whānau experiences with addiction challenges, and of navigating addiction and mental health services
- Experience of evidence-based Family Inclusive Practice approaches e.g., whānau ora approaches, Single Session Family Consultation, the 5-Step Family Method
- Hold a qualification, preferably above level 4 in a social service field
- Hold or be working towards a registration with an allied health profession such as Social Work, OT, NZAC, DAPAANZ etc
- Have good organisation skills
- Be a team player
- A good understanding of Te Tiriti O Waitangi and knowledge of tikanga Māori / Te Reo Māori
- A non-judgemental approach to working with tangata whaiora
You will be part of a dedicated team working across prison sites, and a valued member of the wider Odyssey and Purapura Whetū whānau. We provide ongoing training opportunities, and relocation support is available.
