**About the Role**:
As a Graduate Backend Software Engineer at MEGA, you will work as a part of a highly-skilled team of engineers to develop, test, and debug our backend software and algorithms. You will contribute to software development projects by architecting robust, scalable, and testable PHP code that adheres to our strict privacy and security standards.

Reporting to the API Team Lead and under the guidance of our Senior Backend Engineers, you will make an impact by:

- Completing development projects to a high standard and in accordance with MEGA’s established engineering guidelines
- Engaging, consulting, and cooperating with your teammates to deliver seamless, consistent software solutions, contributing to an environment in which innovation and collaboration are the norm
- Identifying, investigating, and exploring best-practice solutions for technical problems or persistent bottlenecks
- Assisting with technical support requests
- Supporting the translation of requirements into technical specifications
- Thoroughly documenting your work

This is a hybrid-remote role working alongside an asynchronous global workforce; you will be required to periodically attend our Auckland office and may, on occasion, need to be available outside of typical office hours as you collaborate with teammates in other time zones.

**About You**:
You’re a gifted, ambitious graduate engineer with an exceptional academic record and a real passion for the industry - you aced your Algorithms paper at University and are keen for more. You don’t shy away from a challenge and are motivated to make your mark by working on meaningful projects as a part of a high-calibre team. Naturally curious and with an eye for detail, you exhibit a strong desire to learn, understand, and communicate complex information while maintaining a proactive, ‘can do’ attitude.

You also have:

- Solid knowledge of algorithms and data structures
- Experience with SQL and relational databases
- An excellent collaborative capacity - you communicate well and enjoy working with, and learning from, your peers
- Ideally, had exposure to PHP development principles and processes
- Ideally, the ability to show off completed side-projects

**Qualifications**
- You hold a tertiary qualification in Computer Science or a related discipline with a strong academic record.
