At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.
We help shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary. We do this by building relationships and understanding the needs of those who receive our services.

**About our group and team**
The Ākonga Māori team sits in the Secondary Tertiary Group within Te Poutāhū and covers the transition from senior secondary through to tertiary and employment. The Ākonga Māori team is focused on supporting all Māori learners across English and Māori medium settings to ensure that their diverse needs are being met and supported. We support the development of operational policy, teaching and learning programmes, and the secondary-tertiary interface. We work collaboratively with NZQA to ensure alignment of our mutual mahi and processes.
**Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role**
The Ākonga Māori Lead Advisor role will lead one of four workstreams within the Ākonga Māori team. Here you will:
- Lead policy
- Design, implement and deliver curriculum and assessment content.
- Focus on Ākonga/students' achievements.
- Provide leadership and guidance in English and Māori medium education.
- Practice best pedagogy in design, development, and delivery.
- Successfully engage, communicate, and facilitate wānanga with Māori whānau, hapū, iwi and communities and will lead collaborative working relationships.
- Engage with key stakeholders to design and develop initiatives, products and services to ensure that desirable outcome is achieved
**Mōhou ake | About you**
- Prior stakeholder engagement experience as you will be working with the wider ELSA team and Ministry.
- You will work consistently to established timeframes, managing own input and ensuring others' contributions are made to enable work to progress.
- Familiar knowledge and understanding of sensitive cultural values and have a good understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- You will be able to articulate an understanding of Mana ōrite mo te mātauranga Māori as it applies to NCEA.
- Your interpersonal skills and superior writing skills will complement your ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders as a representative of the Ministry.
**Experience and qualifications**
- A Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline which reflects an understanding of the National Curriculum and assessment and NZ Diploma of Teaching (or equivalent).
- Mēnā he matatau ki te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, he wana ake tērā.
- A deep understanding of current pedagogical practice and NCEA related assessment practice is necessary.
