Corrections Health Services lead the delivery of patient-focused primary health care services to those in our care and their whānau, across Aotearoa. It is a nurse-led service providing nursing services and general practice services. Health teams are multidisciplinary in nature with various primary health clinicians (including medical officers and dentists) contracted by the department. Hōkai Rangi, our over-arching strategic direction, places the focus on health at the heart of our business. Building our frameworks from a Matauranga Māori basis is our focus to drive and support equity for Māori, which in turn will contribute to achieving our outcomes of reducing reoffending.
Ngā kawenga | About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated people leader to join our health centre team of clinical and non-clinical staff at Invercargill Prison.
You will be both operationally focused and driven to engage and enhance your team as a leader, with overall responsibility of the day-to-day operations, clinical governance activities, and quality and resource management of our health services. The wider team deal with a broad range of health issues, respond to emergencies and undertake health education for this high health needs population.
Working collaboratively with Doctors, Allied Health professionals, external agencies and other Corrections staff, you will promote a philosophy of care within the prison which ensures the delivery of quality health services to the people in our care - therefore the ability to form new relationships is vital in this role.

- Be a Registered Nurse with a current NZ practising certificate and post-graduate clinical experience in a range of settings.
- Strong cultural competence and a commitment to our practice values of Rangatira, Wairua, Whānau, Kaitiaki and Manaaki.
- Has well developed leadership and operational management skills.
- Demonstrates business acumen within a health care setting.
- Thrives on working in a complex and challenging environment; and
- Demonstrates understanding of a philosophy of care which ensures staff, systems and processes are focussed on providing safe competent and timely health care for people in prison.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
The full salary range is $146,744 - $170,514. Appointment and remuneration will reflect clinical competency, skills, and experience relevant to the role.
