We are looking for a medical officer with a special interest in palliative care to join our vibrant and dynamic team at Hospice Whanganui, New Zealand.

Key responsibilies of the role are:

- To provide excellent palliative care to patients of Hospice Whanganui within the clinical scope of this position.
- To provide medical service on a rostered basis to all Hospice Whanganui patients, with a focus on providing care in a community setting.
- To provide timely, specialist support to external partners, including GPs, Hospital clinicians, Aged Residential Care Providers, St John’s Ambulance and others.
- To actively contribute to HW’s clinical excellence as part of an inter--disciplinary team, in line with its holistic ethos and in accordance with the NZ Palliative Care

Standards.
- To provide specialist medical support to staff, patients, whānau and external partners as required in line with the values of Hospice Whanganui.

The ideal candiate will have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

- An appropriately qualified and registered medical practitioner in New Zealand (or the ability to obtain this registration) with a scope of practice that enables him/her to requirements undertake the duties of this position.
- A minimum of two years’ relevant clinical experience is desirable.
- Experience working with the terminally ill is highly desirable.
- It is desirable that the medical officer has an interest in palliative medicine and a willingness to gain qualifications in palliative care or any other field which might be relevant in a hospice setting.
- Knowledge and Fluency in English is essential as is the ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse range of people.
- Awareness and basic understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $150,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
