Senior Asset Engineer - Substations
- Full-time
- Engagement type: Permanent - Employee
- Department: Network Performance
**About us**
If you like the idea of working on projects that make a fundamental difference to the lives of people in your community, then perhaps you should think about a role at Vector.
So much of what we take for granted in our everyday lives is enabled by the work that Vector is doing to ensure our infrastructure is fit for purpose for a rapidly changing future.
Across our networks we are transforming the way that Auckland’s critical infrastructure is delivered through high-tech data lead solutions and customer first thinking.
It’s a dynamic, energising place to work because what you do here matters to everyone**.**
**About the role**
Auckland is one of the fastest growing cities in the world. As New Zealand’s largest electricity distribution network, we need to grow our network to be both resilient and smart, to support our thriving city. There are numerous growth projects and network refurbishment underway, the future of our network is pivotal in ensuring a safe and reliable power supply for our thriving city.
The core objective of this role is to understand the performance of the electricity network assets - particularly our **zone substation**, **overhead line** and **underground cable assets**. This role will be instrumental in determining the relevant asset strategies required to meet Vector’s asset management objectives ensuring they can continue to operate safely and effectively, in a way that improves reliability and resilience of the network, whilst also optimising asset service life.
You will be exposed to a wide range of engineering and asset disciplines, where you’ll be developing strategies, design and maintenance standards while considering the entire asset lifecycle from design, procurement, maintenance through to eventual decommissioning.
Undertaking asset risk modelling, supporting asset failure investigations, developing risk-based prioritisation for asset investment profiles are also key aspects of this role. You’ll be playing an active role in industry conferences and other forums to ensure Vector is kept up to date with developing technologies, practices, and trends in this sector.
**Who we are looking for**
- You’ll have some HV electrical engineering experience, with exposure to the power industry including private networks, transmission, distribution or generation sectors.
- You’ll be able to support and develop other team members, including passing on engineering knowledge to other engineers within the organisation
- You’ll have a sound financial understanding and commercial acumen, being able to weigh cost, performance, risk and safety when making investment decisions.
- Your stakeholder engagement skills will be your strength, enabling you to build and maintain strong workplace relationships both within and beyond the organisation, coupled with accomplished communication and influencing skills.
You will love working with technical information, some that is provided to you and some that you gather through robust investigations and field-based observations. You'll demonstrate the ability to interpret and identify trends with excel based data and will enjoy working with risk based and financial models to provide validated recommendations on how best to optimise Vectors assets. You will be contributing to our various asset strategies, our asset management plan and supporting our project delivery team by preparing and reviewing from technical information and developing strategies from concept through to implementation in the field. With support from others in the team, you will be responsible for understanding the needs from our engineering, finance, risk, operational and customer teams and providing pragmatic advice on a range of technical issues.
**What we can offer you**
We love working together to create a new energy future. If you want to be part of an organisation with a real and tangible purpose, Vector could be the place for you.
We offer:
