**Tēnei tūranga - About the role**:
The Senior Iwi Engagement Advisor will support the Small Business, Commerce and Consumer Policy (SBCCP) branch to develop capability in managing relationships with Iwi/Hapū and Māori organisations in the development of regulatory and stewardship policy, to ensure there is good understanding of current Government policy and community views on the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications for policy. This will include being responsible for creating channels and actively engaging and liaising with Māori so that their interests are reflected and considered as part of the decision making process in the development of policy in the SBCCP branch.
This role will also support the capability of the SBCC branch to engage with Iwi, including developing, analysing and delivering material that underpins good Iwi relationships. Additionally, this role will lead the development and implementation of a long-term engagement approach with Iwi to be used by SBCCP staff, focussed on key work priority projects.
The Senior Iwi Engagement Advisor reports to the Business Manager in the SBCCP branch and will work closely with MBIEs Partnerships and Capability team, and the Engagement Communications and Ministerial Services team, to ensure alignment of work programmes and consistency in messaging.
Here at MBIE we promote flexible working so are open to considering full or part time arrangements; located in any centre across the country (with regular travel to Wellington).

- Demonstrated experience of working with Māori communities, Iwi, Hapū and key Māori organisations.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
- Knowledge and experience of the aspirations and needs of Māori including evidence of involvement in Māori networks.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to use a range of oral, written and visual mediums to communicate effectively in diverse situations.
- Proven ability to develop trust and credibility with managers and staff, and confidence dealing with senior leaders.
