The Office of the Inspectorate _Te Tari Tirohia_ works to ensure all people under Corrections' management are treated in a way that is fair, safe, secure and humane.
The Inspectorate is part of the Department of Corrections, but functions independently to ensure objectivity and integrity. The Inspectorate provides critical oversight of the Corrections system and operates under the Corrections Act 2004 and the Corrections Regulations 2005.

**Nga kawenga | About the role**
We have** two Inspector vacancies** currently available in the Inspectorate. One of these**Inspector positions will report to the Principal Inspector Investigations and Complaints. This team is responsible for investigating complaints, deaths in custody and other serious incidents, undertaking Visitor Prohibition Order reviews and monitoring prisoner allegations against staff.
The other**Inspector position will report to the Principal Inspector Inspections. The Inspections team is responsible for undertaking prison inspections according to our Inspection Standards. From time to time, you may be required to support the work of the Investigations and Complaints team.
These roles will require regular and significant travel throughout New Zealand, sometimes at short notice and possibly on weekends. A clean, **Full New Zealand Driver's Licence** is essential.
**Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experience**
- Proven experience conducting effective investigations or inquiries.
- Knowledge of and the ability to interpret relevant legislation and international conventions, including the Corrections Act 2004 and Corrections Regulations 2005.
- Advanced written and oral communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write high quality reports and deliver constructive feedback.
- A well-developed understanding and commitment to the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and strong cultural intelligence.
- An ability to self-manage, prioritise workload, and deliver quality results on time.
- A degree or equivalent level qualification, majoring in a relevant discipline.
**Utu a-tau | Salary**
The full range (85%-120%) is $111,278 - $157,098. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
