- Based in Paraparaumu, Kapiti Coast
- Training salary: $57,083, increasing to $64,652 pro rata after training (fourteen weeks)
- Permanent, Part time

Our busy call centre is the front line of our response to members of the public. You will receive calls regarding, burglaries, scams, vandalism, people in distress and more. No two days will be the same.
Becoming a communicator is the start of an exciting and rewarding role with a strong career path. You will be a key member of the New Zealand Police team, you will be the voice of reassurance.

About the role
As the first point of contact answering inbound enquiries from the public in time of need you will be fully trained to alleviate a caller’s panic and stress, accurately identify the needs of your caller and ensure the appropriate Police response.
While this role is meaningful and rewarding it’s also part of a highly supportive and diverse team. NZ Police are committed to the development and growth of our people, with pathways to progress within the team and into many other roles in Police. Experience as a Police Communicator helps build a strong foundation for those aspiring to become a Police Officer.
With the part time role, we are looking for people to cover a variety of shifts. The shifts will be negotiated at the time of hire. Some of the criteria includes:
- Average weekly hours: 20 hours to 30 hours per week
- Shift lengths between 5 to 10 hours
- Mixture of both weekday and weekend shifts
- Start time window from 9.00am weekdays, 10.00am weekends
- You will also be rostered on during Public Holidays, as well as weekends.
Additional compensation of 15% of salary for hours worked after 6pm and before 6am. The Kapiti location also has free onsite parking.
**Communicators need to**:
- Communicate effectively by listening, showing appropriate empathy, and adapting your communication style to the situation
- Handle stressful and emotionally difficult situations with composure and a sensitive approach
- Listen to what people need, analyse information, act and achieve results through appropriate decision making and persistence
- Use a of variety software and equipment quickly to accurately complete tasks under time pressure
- Learn quickly and develop their capability whilst embracing feedback
