Johnson Controls’ Fire Detection R&D group is located in Christchurch, and develops Fire Alarm, Evacuation System and Alarm Monitoring equipment for the Australian and New Zealand markets. We work alongside our Sales, Product Management and Technical Services teams to provide well respected products and customer support. As part of the Johnson Controls Global Products division, we liaise with local and global R&D groups and manufacturing plants to deliver quality products to our customers.

**Role Overview**

This is an opportunity for an R&D Engineer, experienced with JCI ’s Christchurch R&D operations, to move into a Team management role to assist with people management and operations planning.
- Team Management of up to 3 Staff - Lead, Mentor and Develop - First Point of contact
- Perform their normal engineering duties, but with an additional focus on people management to improve staff development and engineering outcomes.
- Liaise with the R&D manager on training needs, operational improvements, alignment with JCI practice, and similar

**How you will do it**
- Day to day staff management for timesheets
- Management of the yearly goals cycle and performance pay
- Liaise wit the R&D manager for general operations, forward planning, improvement opportunities and process improvements
- Undertake any necessary disciplinary action, ensuring appropriate reporting to the R&D manager and HR.

**Who are we looking for?**
- Technical qualifications and experience relevant to the Engineering role.
- New Zealand residency/citizenship or a valid New Zealand work visa
- Excellent communication skills with a can - do attitude
- Experience leading teams and/or projects.
