About the role
The NZBS Blood Bank based at Auckland Hospital is New Zealand's largest Blood Bank testing between 200-250 samples per day. This is an exciting and fast paced environment, often responding immediately in emergency situations for patients in need. What makes this role different to other Scientist roles, is at the end of the day, you know that you have been directly involved in someone's care.
As a Medical Laboratory Scientist you will be responsible for performing a range of duties related to pre transfusion, antenatal and diagnostic testing and the issue of blood and blood products for clinical purposes. You will be joining a well-established team of Scientists and Technicians committed to quality service and high standards and patient well-being.
About you
This is a fantastic opportunity for a new graduate who has recently completed their BMLS degree and is looking for an entry level role into a blood bank environment. You must be registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Sciences Council of NZ seeking to complete your intern requirements before registration with NZMLSB.
You will have a positive attitude, be committed to patient care and have the flexibility to fully participate in our 24-hour, 7-day roster. The ability to multi-task, work collaboratively and respond quickly in a fast-paced environment is essential in this role and key to your success as part of this high performing team.

**We are looking for someone who has/is**:

- Experience in transfusion science or a related discipline
- Experience working in a Blood Bank or completed 4th year placement within a blood bank is preferred but not essential
- Flexibility to fully participate in our 24-hour, 7-day per week roster
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Positive attitude
- Self-motivated
- Ability to take responsibility
