**About the Team**:
The International Engagement and Coordination team is responsible for ensuring Maritime New Zealand's international obligations and responsibilities are delivered and represented at international forums. This involves ensuring New Zealand is appropriately represented and delegates are supported by a coordinated approach on issues of national significance, ensuring amendments to international agreements are appropriately actioned and any reporting back to relevant international organizations completed on-time.

**We are also responsible for**:

- developing bilateral relationships;
- briefing senior officials and ministers on issues;
- collaborating with central government agencies and communicating New Zealand's strategic objectives for international engagement.

**What you'll do**:
The Advisor will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of topics supporting senior members of the team to develop robust advice on international issues as they arise in fora relevant to the maritime sector. You will provide high quality support in briefing and debriefing delegates to international meetings, providing thorough analysis of any new items as they arise.
As a confident communicator you will develop connections across Maritime NZ and other government agencies to ensure effective engagement with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and other relevant international maritime forums. This is a great opportunity to grow your policy craft in a supportive, tight knit team.

**What we're looking for**:

- Experience working within a legislative or regulatory framework;
- Previous experience in a graduate advisory or analyst role within central government;
- Good analytical skills including the ability to interpret data and handle complex and technical material;
- Ability to think strategically and identify themes and issues emerging from a range of competing information;
- Sound written and oral communication skills;
- Great attention to detail and strong organisational skills;
- Adaptability and self-motivation;
- Ability to work collaboratively.
