So, from the moment you begin your journey with Xero, we will constantly strive to ensure you’ll feel welcome and supported to do the best work of your life.
We are looking for a
**Senior Site Reliability Engineer (with a focus on incident management, enablement and consulting)** wanting to work either Wellington Hybrid, Auckland Hybrid or NZ remote
At Xero, our SRE enablement team has two focus areas. The first is post incident analysis, drawing out learning from incidents and identifying patterns or trends from incidents across the company. We advocate for taking time to learn from incidents and how our people and systems respond to surprises. The second focus is engaging with teams across the organization with specialized reliability consulting, facilitating incident learning and running SRE workshops and training.
In your work you’ll help teams deliver a great customer experience through a better understanding of the behavior and operation of their systems. Another area you will be part of is responding to incidents, using your experience and understanding of distributed systems to facilitate incident resolution in collaboration with Xero product teams.
**What you'll do in the team**:
- Engage with other Xero teams to facilitate and coordinate incident reviews and analysis.
- Take part in our on-call rotation to help facilitate speedy incident resolution.
- Contribute to improving the availability, performance and efficiency of our platform.
- Develop and grow engineers through technical mentorship.
- Make it easier for other engineering teams to achieve a high standard of system awareness.
- Help to build a culture of learning and resilience in our systems and teams.
- Maintain relationships by building trust and credibility with stakeholders and your team.
**What you'll bring to Xero**:
- Proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages (C#, JavaScript, Java, Python etc) or experience with infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform, Cloudformation).
- Experience using observability tooling to monitor the health of a highly distributed system.
- Experience working with cloud providers such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Experience with agile software development methodology including continuous integration and delivery.
- Experience being on call and responding to incidents.
- Ability to develop and grow engineers through technical coaching and mentoring.
- A passion for learning about our socio-technical systems through incident analysis and post incident reviews.
- An interest in Resilience Engineering and Chaos Engineering practices.
- A growth mindset and a passion for learning.
- The ability to engage, influence and build relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Willingness to capture and share learning through various channels such as blog posts, talks, and documentation.
**Why you should become a Xero**
It’s a diverse and inclusive environment, with people who will respect, challenge, support and mentor you to do the best work of your life. We’re a place where innovation and change are not only encouraged but also celebrated. We value our people and want them to enjoy and take pride in their work.
We’re very supportive of flexible working arrangements and offer a competitive remuneration package including shares and life insurance, in addition to your base salary.
