We have an exciting opportunity for a Cadet Building Control Officer - Assessments to join our passionate team of building professionals. Whanganui District Council has run a highly successful cadet Building Control Officer program for several years and is committed to continuing this opportunity for the right person.

You'll need an understanding of technical building requirements, excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work under time constraints accurately and effectively.

Working within the Building Control Team you will be:

- Advising and interpreting relevant building legislation for external and internal customers.
- Ensuring compliance of buildings and structures with all relevant legislation.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

- A Regulation 18 qualification or the ability to complete an appropriate qualification.
- An ability to gain competency levels based on the National Competency Assessment System.
- Experience in interpreting building plans, specifications and legislation.

You will be solutions-focused with strong interpersonal skills and can thrive in flexible environments working in the office and have the ability to move from tasks easily and efficiently.
