At Contact, we believe home is the most important place in the world. It's all part of our vision to leave Aotearoa better than we found it. We’re a power and broadband company, but we’re so much more than that. We are transforming the ways we mahi, and how Aotearoa is powered, leading the charge on renewable energy and digitising customer journeys in ways not yet seen here. A team of 1000+ from all walks of life who love what we do, look out for each other, and learn from one another every day, we’re stoked to be guided by our tikanga: _we touch lives to make life better._
**Job Description**:
**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role***
We’re on a journey to decarbonise Aotearoa. The world is not the same as it was 25 years ago when we started out. We know better now, and we can do better. Our philosophy is to ‘be the neighbour you’d want to have.’ To us, this means respecting the rights of others, ensuring the safe and best practice operation of our sites, and making a positive contribution to the communities we call home.
Based at our iconic geothermal power station in Wairakei, as an Environment & Land Advisor within our Sustainability team (a truly great bunch of humans) you’ll play a key role in environmental and land management and key stakeholder relationships in the Waikato region, providing property support and advice, negotiating and administering property rights to enable access to land, assisting with the development and implementation of land improvement projects, and managing property and environment works to ensure we keep our T’s crossed and I’s dotted. There’ll be a fair bit of stakeholder management with our tangata whenua partners, neighbours, Councils, LINZ, local communities, our tenants and the public, as well as our own Contact whānau. You’ll need to deliver a high, consistent level of customer service across the board to ensure there are no surprises and all outputs are meaningful and hit the right notes in assisting strategic and commercial decision making.
This isn’t a job where you’ll paint by numbers. There’s a lot of compliancy stuff to stay on top of, but opportunity to bring new ideas and ways of thinking forward, too. We’ve done some awesome mahi already but would benefit from a more strategic, long-term view - how can we create the environments we want, not just now but in 20-50 years’ time?
**Qualifications**:
**Ko wai koe | About you**
Fully across land management practices and associated legislation, you’re comfortable negotiating property rights, managing property and environment works, and can conduct land hazard identification (and communicate those hazards to tenants). The stakeholder piece comes easily to you - you’ve managed tricky relationships before and built awesome skills in influencing, conflict management, and negotiation.
Highly self-motivated, you’re the kind of person who thrives on mucking in and seeing results. You’re a problem-solver by nature, able to clearly convey your findings and recommendations, and the sort of person who adds to a team simply by being on it with your great energy, smarts, and integrity. You’re skilled at finding and recommending cost effective solutions, take pride in communicating honestly and transparently, and build trust and engagement with ease.
We’d love it if you had experience in the energy sector, but any kind of working environment that’s like ours could be a go. Qualification-wise, it’d be great to have a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in science, commerce, law or environmental discipline, but not a must-have.
Additional Information
There are a bunch of perks to being a permanent Contact kaimahi (employee). Along with great leadership, teammates, development, and growth and progression opportunities, you’ll enjoy flexible working, free health insurance cover, better-than-your-average leave, access to Contact Shares, a ‘Good to be Home’ annual payment toward your home set up & wellbeing, discounts on Contact Energy products_, _and more.
