At Contact, we believe home is the most important place in the world. It's all part of our vision to leave Aotearoa better than we found it. We’re a power and broadband company, but we’re so much more than that. We are transforming the ways we mahi, and how Aotearoa is powered, leading the charge on renewable energy and digitising customer journeys in ways not yet seen here. A team of 1000+ from all walks of life who love what we do, look out for each other, and learn from one another every day, we’re stoked to be guided by our tikanga: _we touch lives to make life better._
We recognise the value we create as a business relies on nurturing relationships and taking care of our shared natural resources, now and into the future. At our geothermal generation facilities, we rely heavily on natural geothermal systems to generate electricity and recognise this is a taonga we share with communities, which is why we’re so focused on building positive relationships with our neighbours, community stakeholders, and tangata whenua. We also aim to be good stewards of the land and the wider environment, recognising it is a taonga that requires care and respect.
**Job Description**:
**Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role***
Based at our iconic geothermal power station in Wairakei, as Environment Advisor you’ll play a huge part in the management, use and quality of our geothermal operations. Part of our Sustainability team (a truly great bunch of humans), you’ll play a key role in environmental management, project delivery and stakeholder relations, helping to ensure Contact retains its social licence to operate now and in the future.
Supporting with the development of environmental strategies, policies and practices for generation sites, you’ll ensure our geothermal stations have valid consents and permits for land use and activity, assist in the analysis of future land requirements, coordinate our land and property assets, build relationships with regional and local councils and other key parties (i.e., DOC), and communicate and coordinate with other people in Contact to make sure consent and consent conditions are understood and complied with.
We’re on a journey to decarbonise Aotearoa and doing some truly epic mahi in this space. Our philosophy is to ‘be the neighbour you’d want to have.’ This isn’t a job where you’ll paint by numbers. There’s a lot of compliancy stuff to stay on top of, but opportunity to bring new ideas and ways of thinking forward, too. Since our new CEO Mike joined in 2020, we’ve been empowered to innovate and transform like never before. He’s focused on his kids, his mokopuna, and the world we’re going to leave for them, and that spirit lives and breathes throughout Contact.
**Qualifications**:
**Ko wai koe | About you**
Tertiary-qualified in science, environment or law, you’ve done heaps of mahi in environment planning / resource management and have a sound understanding of regional and district planning frameworks. You’re across all the relevant legislation pertaining to resource management and land use, experienced in dealing with central and local government, and have plenty of stories to share about community relationships you’ve built, including with tangata whenua.
A big part of owning this work and doing it well will be the relationships you build, both out in the community and within Contact. You’re somebody who naturally tailors your approach to your audience, are comfortable working with a variety of people, not afraid to pick up the phone, and have that rare ‘Pied Piper’ energy that makes people want to be on the journey with you. Highly self-motivated, you’re the kind of person who thrives on getting stuck in and getting stuff done, and brings a huge amount of energy to your work.
Additional Information
There are a bunch of perks to being a permanent Contact kaimahi (employee). Along with great leadership, teammates, development, and growth and progression opportunities, you’ll enjoy flexible working, free health insurance cover, better-than-your-average leave, access to Contact Shares, a ‘Good to be Home’ annual payment
