**Mo te tunga | About the role**

We are looking for a strategic and commercial leader, responsible for shaping and delivering the long-term vision for our national property and fleet portfolios. This is a high-impact leadership position where your ability to think strategically, drive commercial outcomes and influence at the executive level will be critical.

You will lead the Property and Fleet Group, overseeing the planning, acquisition and optimisation of infrastructure and assets that are essential to frontline policing. Your commercial acumen will guide major investment decisions, procurement strategies, and contract negotiations, ensuring value for money and alignment with organisational priorities. You'll also play a pivotal role in integrating property and fleet strategies with broader Police capability goals, while fostering innovation, sustainability and operational excellence.

This is a unique opportunity to influence a national infrastructure strategy across a significant nationwide property and fleet portfolio and contribute to the safety and wellbeing of communities across New Zealand.

**Key Accountabilities**:
As Director - Property and Fleet, your leadership will span across strategic, commercial, operational and cultural domains. You will:

- Lead the development and execution of Police's national property and fleet strategies, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and long-term capability needs.
- Drive commercial excellence in procurement, contract negotiation, and asset lifecycle management to deliver value for money and sustainable outcomes.
- Provide strategic advice to the Executive and Chief Capability Infrastructure Officer, contributing to enterprise-wide investment planning and decision-making.
- Oversee the delivery of the Property Investment Plan and Fleet Strategy, ensuring they are data-informed, future-focused and responsive to operational demands.
- Ensure Police's property estate and vehicle fleet are safe, compliant, fit-for-purpose, and optimised for performance.
- Lead the development of robust systems, processes and governance frameworks to support efficient service delivery and continuous improvement.
- Champion innovation in facilities management, fleet sustainability and project delivery.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with iwi, hapu, and Maori organisations, ensuring decisions reflect the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Engage with local communities, councils, and stakeholders to ensure Police infrastructure supports community needs and aspirations.
- Collaborate with government agencies, sector partners and suppliers to co-design and deliver integrated, future-ready solutions.
- Ensure all property and fleet activities comply with relevant legislation, standards and policies.
- Inspire and lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, agility and customer focus.
- Build capability within the Property and Fleet Group, attracting top talent and encouraging professional growth and innovation.

- Extensive leadership experience managing large and complex nationwide property portfolios and/or fleet operations.
- Proven ability to deliver strategic planning, investment prioritisation and commercial outcomes.
- Strong understanding of public sector procurement, compliance and governance frameworks.
- Demonstrated success in leading complex projects and programmes through to delivery.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience working in partnership with iwi, hapu, and Maori organisations on shared objectives.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- A collaborative leadership style that fosters innovation, adaptability and high performance.
