**Operations Manager**

**Location**: Bay of Plenty
**Reporting to**: Grower
**Employment Type**: Full-time / Permanent

**About the Role**

We are seeking a **Operations Manager** to lead the day-to-day management of our kiwifruit orchards. This role is pivotal in ensuring that orchard operations are run efficiently, safely, and in accordance with Zespri and NZ industry best practices to deliver premium quality fruit.

**Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Oversight**
- Manage all kiwifruit orchard activities across the annual production cycle, including:

- Winter pruning
- Summer canopy work
- Fertiliser and spray programmes
- Pest and disease management
- Fruit thinning and girdling
- Harvest planning and logistics
- Ensure compliance with Zespri GAP, NZGAP, and all regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with agronomists and consultants to optimise vine health and yield.

**Team & Labour Management**
- Recruit, train, and supervise seasonal and permanent orchard staff.
- Manage and schedule labour teams for key tasks throughout the season.
- Ensure all team members work safely and productively.
- Maintain clear communication with staff and contractors.

**Planning & Administration**
- Develop and manage orchard budgets and operating plans.
- Monitor orchard performance and report to management on KPIs, yield forecasts, and operational progress.

**Infrastructure & Equipment**
- Oversee maintenance and upgrades of orchard infrastructure including irrigation systems, shelterbelts, trellis, and machinery.
- Ensure all equipment is operated safely and maintained to high standards.

**Qualifications & Experience**

**Required**:

- 3+ years of orchard management or supervisory experience, preferably in kiwifruit or a similar horticultural crop.
- Strong understanding of the kiwifruit growing calendar and orchard practices.
- Knowledge of NZ horticulture compliance requirements (e.g., Zespri GAP, Health & Safety at Work Act).
- Growsafe and Approved Handler certificates (or willingness to obtain).
- Full NZ Driver’s Licence.

**Preferred**:

- Tertiary qualification in horticulture, agribusiness, or related field.

- Excellent planning and organisational ability.
- Ability to make decisions under pressure, especially during peak season.
- Tech-savvy and confident with reporting systems and mobile tools.
- Committed to sustainability, quality, and continuous improvement.
