Join us as R&D Technician for ABB Smart Power and you’ll get to work with cutting-edge power electronics products and technologies enabling safer and smarter electricity flow from substation to the point of consumption. We deliver products and systems designed to connect, protect and control electrical systems, ensuring reliability, efficiency and safety for equipment and personnel. Reporting to R&D Manager, based out Napier; New Zealand, you will support the development of electrical prototypes from first build phase to final production handover.

**Your responsibilities**:

- Prototype hardware builds of power electronics.
- Create documentation (Schematics / cable assemblies / design reviews/ production doc)
- Setup and execute prototype tests.
- Prepare test reports according to the applicable standards(s) for the tested platform or product. (electrical/thermal/physical/ against agreed standards)
- Assist in resolving any R&D problems or production issues
- Assists in the coordination of the maintenance of test facilities and the related equipment and tools sused in these facilities.
- Assists and supports the in-house certification resource in the qualification of components and certification of ABB products or suppliers.

**Your background**:

- Industrial electrician or other electrical qualification
- Strong problem solving and debugging skills
- Experience in the lab setting with power testing and test equipment
- Autocad for schematics
- Desirable: an interest in electronics
