New Zealand New Zealand Ministry of Justice Full time

**Analyst, Level 1 and Senior Analyst**
**Wellington**
- Data in the right hands can tell a compelling story
- Help us shine a light on the unknown for our customers
- Bring your energy and skills to our highly engaged team with a great culture

**Te whiwhinga mahi/The Opportunity**

We are looking for people as passionate about data as we are. In Sector Insights, we are united in a common goal of using data to drive insights to inform decision making by justice sector leaders. We support justice agencies to work together to deliver ambitious results for a fair and safe Aotearoa.

Your role as a Senior Analyst or an Analyst is as a catalyst for change and improvement based on empirical data. Not just hunches or maybes, but well researched, robust data which tells a clear and engaging story.

You will use the data available to you to investigate a myriad of issues facing the justice sector, sometimes with a well-defined hypothesis beforehand, and sometimes to solely explore the data and see what jumps out.

Your natural curiosity and keen analytical skills will illuminate previously undiscovered issues and opportunities for growth; insights, that without this investigation, would remain hidden and the data meaningless. Your role is to communicate the same story, with the same data, across different areas of the business.

Now is an exciting time for you to become part of the Ministry of Justice in Sector Insights as the insights and advice we provide are highly sought after. Our work is characterised by innovation, quality, and impact, and we inform the direction of Justice agencies.

**He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience**

To be successful in this role, you will need:

- Passion and curiosity - with a strong desire to explore new opportunities for using data insights
- A positive can-do attitude and willingness to learn
- Flexibility to respond to ambiguity, multiple deadlines and changing priorities
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders
- A delivery focus, with persistence to work towards long term goals
- Good communication skills and the ability to translate your findings into a compelling narrative
- A strong sense of team, engaging and helping others around you to succeed
- A tertiary degree in a relevant field
- Experience using analytical software (such as SAS or Excel)

**Ko wai mātou/**Who we are**

At Te Tāhū o te Ture - the Ministry of Justice, we're committed to working together for a fair and safe Aotearoa.

Sector Insights is comprised of four teams - Sector Analysis and Modelling; Research and Evaluation; and two Analytics and Insights teams, Courts and Tribunals and Justice Services.

We work collaboratively, turning data into insight to support the delivery of better services and outcomes to people engaging with the Justice system. We achieve this by helping our partners answer three critical questions: What's happening? Why is it happening? and What would happen if?

This allows the Ministry's operational leaders to focus their front-line improvement efforts on the areas that will make the biggest difference to New Zealanders.

Our work is challenging and complex. Our goals are ambitious. We make a real difference to the New Zealand Justice system. Our teams are sharp-minded, curious and influential. We have inspirational leaders who support, challenge and actively promote career development. Work-life balance is a priority for us, and everyone is encouraged to support their wellbeing. We offer a dynamic and social environment, a place you can be yourself.

**Joining Te Tāhū o te Ture means you will become part of an organisation that welcomes and supports people of all gender identities, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, disabilities and religions.**
