Port Otago Group’s business comprises a regional container terminal, bulk port activities, cruise, and property investment and development. We service South Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, working with customers to streamline their supply chains. Our culture is hands-on, safety focused and encourages continuous improvement.

This is a newly created role within our Marine & Infrastructure team, based at our Head Office in beautiful Port Chalmers.

**Things you should know about the job**:
Reporting directly through to our Civil Engineer, as a Junior Project Engineer you will provide primary support for a variety of infrastructure projects including but not limited to wharf reconstructions, new builds, facilities management, and yard developments. The three key elements of this role include:

- Providing project engineering and project assistance support to Project Managers (engineering and maintenance) to maximise the safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of major projects. This will see you preparing and implementing contract documentation, specifications, schedules, and project estimates, assisting with project safety planning, delivering legal site compliance checks, project monitoring, and documentation and records.
- Providing project leadership for light projects in accordance with the Port Otago project management system, acting as the Project manager under the guidance of senior staff. This will see you lead various light projects from the initial development of scope and parameters for project design and implementation right through to the transfer to asset management planning and capitalisation on project completion.
- Providing engineering and general support for the execution of planned infrastructure asset management activity. You will programme and undertake facilities inspections with results of inspection / investigative work to be reported with appropriate detail into asset register records or asset management system/s.

You will also be involved in undertaking CAD drafting work associated with project and asset management works.

**You will have the following Key Attributes**:

- A true passion for Health & Safety with an excellent health and safety record and not be afraid to speak up
- A Full Tertiary Qualification - (NZDE, BEngTech to BE Uni) is desirable, or you have some tertiary study underway (NCL5+, NZDE -Engineering Diploma, BEngTech to BE Uni). Could be trade qualified - NCL4.
- Project Management training desirable with experience in the phases of proposal, initiation, planning, delivery, and close-out.
- Technical experience - from either mechanical, civil, manufacturing, construction (surveying), contracting or primary industries.
- CAD - working knowledge/use through to proficient user
- Computer software skills MS products - experienced proficient use of Word and Excel.
- Technical competence matched with innovation and great problem-solving; a keen eye for detail and a curiosity to learn more and form good solutions.
- Proven ability to develop strong working relationships (internally and externally)
- Good communication skills - written, verbal and presentation skills

**Heads up**:

- A full clean NZ Driver’s license is essential
- You must be able to pass Ministry of Justice, ACC checks and a medical which includes a drug and alcohol test as part of our recruitment process
