New Zealand's best team of sports journalists is looking for a new senior player. We want someone to help shape the news agenda around the nation's biggest sporting events and bring fabulous stories to life.

Our Sports Premium Editor will help drive daily content from start to finish, ensuring our Premium pieces are perfectly targeted and polished for maximum effect. You'll also plan long-term Premium series and agenda-setting campaigns.

You'll need sharp news judgment as you guide our first-rate team of sports reporters to create high-quality, engaging and trustworthy journalism for all platforms, from video to publishing and audio.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Journalism skills**:

- Produce, assign and curate high-quality, Premium content.
- Confidently write opinion and/or longer features.
- Show professional news judgment, showcasing content online and in print appropriately.
- Handle breaking news fast and effectively.
- Long-term planning for major events and content series, integrating across NZME departments.

**Leadership**:

- Support the Head of Sport and Deputy Head of Sport Editor and step in as needed. Coach others, curate and edit content for online and print.
- Champion diversity and inclusion objectives and initiatives within the newsroom.

**Planning and **organisational skills**:

- Managing multiple tasks, assignments and deadlines under pressure while guiding the team.
- Tailoring content for the tone and strategy of the Sport section, ensuring content is accurate and includes all elements (images, video, audio, SEO headlines, links, classifications and tagging).
- Maintain a comprehensive diary of upcoming events for coverage.

**Audience-focused**:

- Use analytics, research and data to monitor and respond to audience engagement.

**SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED**:

- Relevant qualifications and significant experience working in a newsroom in senior roles.
- You'll be a senior journalist with leadership experience and meaningful history working in daily news and sport. You'll have lots of ideas and be committed to delivering high-impact, authentic journalism for audiences of the NZ Herald.
- You’ll be comfortable in digital, broadcasting and print environments.
- Skilled at covering stories on a wide range of topics, thinking laterally and creatively, managing multiple tasks and deadlines under pressure, while helping to guide and mentor a team.
- A dogged pursuit of the truth, and excellent research and writing skills. A positive attitude, adaptability, teamwork and strong communication skills are essential.
