**Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the Role**

As part of the Disability Support Staff, you will provide reading and writing assistance during tests and exams and/or provide notetaking assistance in the classroom for Ara students registered with Disability Services.

Joining our team of Disability Support Staff (Notetakers and Reader/Writers) allows you to be part of Ara's work in making tertiary education accessible to disabled students throughout the Canterbury region. You will make a difference to the individual lives of students.

Hours of work are on a casual, as and when required basis and during term time only. As work is dependent on student needs it is hard to predict when the work needs to be done, therefore hours are not guaranteed. The nature of a casual position means hours of work are irregular.

Duties may include:

- Take typed notes in classes
- Record lecture and class discussion information
- Maintain a discreet presence in class and refrain from engaging in class activities
- Maintain confidentiality with regard to any information about students or sensitive class content
- As requested by the assigned student, read aloud written content in an exam
- As requested by the assigned student, write down or type the student's dictated responses in an exam
- Maintain appropriate exam boundaries.

**Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako - Skills/Experience**
- Experience in secondary schooling or tertiary learning environment
- At least average speed and accurate typing skills or legible handwriting
- Ability to take accurate dictation
- Ability to make accurate and comprehensive notes
- Clear presentation of written work, including good spelling, and well-organised layout skills
- Skilled and confident using a range of IT platforms
- Excellent interpersonal skills with sound written and oral communication
- High standards of confidentiality and personal integrity
- Demonstrated commitment to providing quality service
