Senior Civil Engineer with stormwater, road, or other civil design experience
- Technical mentorship & involvement in complex, large-scale development
- Rapidly growing, lifestyle district 20 minutes north of Christchurch

Are you looking for a more meaningful role in which you can influence development in a district for the benefit of the environment and communities? As a senior member of the 6-person Development team, you’ll steer Council’s input on the more complex, larger-scale developments in the Waimakariri district. There’s also opportunity to mentor and guide others.

Waimakariri District Council is a progressive, high performing council, supporting one of the fastest growing districts in New Zealand. You’ll be part of larger team of Engineers (approx. 30) who work highly collaboratively. There is a great lifestyle on offer with urban, rural and coastal options. Houses are affordable, with an excellent coastline nearby, plus opportunities for hiking, fishing, mountain biking and skiing on our doorstep.

**The Challenge**:

- Ensure all aspects of development-related infrastructure meet Council requirements and New Zealand Engineering Standards - includes carrying out site inspections, reviewing designs, preparing engineering assessments, negotiating cost-recovery and Private Development Agreements.
- Engage with developers and their engineers to understand the development objectives, their design process and assumptions, the design outputs, and provide feedback and comment, influence direction.
- Work closely with Council’s Asset teams to ensure development-related infrastructure assets are fit for purpose, future-proof, resilient and cost-effective to maintain and operate.
- Mentor other Engineers and support their technical and professional development.
- Contribute to the wider activities of the Project Delivery Unit (Waimakariri District Council’s in-house consultancy unit) and work across Council, with stakeholders, iwi and the community.

**Your Skills**:

- Hold a degree in Civil Engineering, Natural Resource Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of civil engineering experience including earthworks, stormwater, wastewater, water supply, &/or roading design. Ideally be Chartered or working towards it.
- Able to critically evaluate and make well-reasoned decisions or recommendations.
- Have the communication and influencing skills to draw out stakeholders’ perspectives and interests, and negotiate a solution or compromise.

This is a full-time permanent position with a competitive salary dependent on skills, experience and performance.
