Te Wai Māori was established to advance Māori rights and interests in freshwater fisheries. We are committed to protecting Māori rights and interests in freshwater fisheries and undertake a wide range of mahi relating to indigenous species and their habitat seeking to ensure quality water and healthy and abundant freshwater taonga.

**Ngā tino Pūkenga/Wheako - Skills/experiences for the role**

This is a role for someone with passion for this kaupapa and we are open to a wide range of skills for this role. You will be an experienced professional with 5+ years’ relevant experience with sound knowledge and understanding of Aotearoa’s systems for managing freshwater and freshwater fisheries and activities that affect freshwater and coastal marine areas. We would be happy to kōrero with you about your skills that may include:

- Ability to evaluate and develop policy and lead projects.
- Experience managing taiao related projects, with the ability to report and present mahi across a variety of mediums.
- A working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, iwi development and rights and interests.
- Proven experience advocating for iwi and hapū aspirations.
- Your way of operating is solution focused and collaborative.
- Ability to kōrero te reo is great, more important is you’ll have a good understanding of tikanga.

**Mō tēnei tūranga mahi - About the role**

Reporting to the Wai Puna (Manager) as the Senior Analyst you’ll be based in central Wellington and be part of a passionate rōpū that looks to advance the interests of iwi, primarily in the development of Freshwater fisheries. This is a great opportunity for those who have freshwater science experience and practical experience in the taiao, environmental policy and/or related legislation space to make a difference supporting interesting and impactful mahi in this kaupapa.

This is mahi where you can follow your passion and use your tertiary qualification in environmental management, environmental planning, public policy, ecology, freshwater science, or law. Which will help you to provide robust advice to support the kaupapa. You will be an advocate for iwi aspirations across wai māori and te taiao. You will have the ability to think critically, analyse policies and identify impacts. You will lead, coordinate, and contribute to tour freshwater work programmes.

Your natural engaging approach will stand you in good stead as you may need to travel across the mōtu to engage and work with iwi and hapū.

Salary range offered is $98,000 - $122,000 with the midpoint of $116,000.
