Do you have knowledge and expertise in Te Ao Māori and/or established relationships with tangata whenua and Māori businesses?
- Are you eager to support NZ's shift to a circular economy and more sustainable use of resources?
- Be part of our exciting journey as we aspire to build he taiao tonui mo nga reanga katoa (a flourishing environment for every generation)
We have an exciting opportunity to support our Waste Investments rōpū by lifting our engagement and collaboration with tangata whenua as we identify investment opportunities for Aotearoa and te taiao.
Utilise your relationship management and contract management skills to identify, inform, guide, and facilitate projects that contribute towards the purpose of our rōpū: Investing in Aotearoa to create a circular economy, by empowering people to reinvent our use of resources.
Mō tēnei tūrangi mahi | About this role
As part of a broader plan to reduce waste at its source, minimise its disposal, and decrease greenhouse emissions from waste, the Government is expanding the national levy on waste to landfill, developing a new national waste strategy and legislation, and increasing its investment in waste minimisation.
Revenue raised through the waste levy, and other non-levy sources will be reinvested in reducing waste and its associated emissions. This work is enabled through the Waste Minimisation Fund and the Plastics Innovation Fund.
This role will sit in the Waste Investments Directorate. We work with iwi, industry, local government, and the community sector to identify, assess and support projects that seek to end our take, make, use and dispose culture and help move New Zealand to a circular, low-waste and low-emissions economy.
We are committed to accurately reflecting Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ao Māori into our everyday work. We are actively building capacity and capability to support us to delivery our Te Ao Hurihuri Strategy. With that in mind we are looking for a ‘Senior Investment Manager.'
In this role you will take the lead in connecting with different types of organisations and manage a portfolio of grant funded projects. If you have a strong background in engaging with Māori entities, including supporting or facilitating Māori business activities, we'd love to hear from you. Ideally, you will also have some programme, grant and/or contract management experience, and some exposure to the waste, resource recovery or sustainability sector.
- Building and leading relationships with other agencies and stakeholders that have an interest or involvement in the Waste Minimisation Fund outcomes
- Supporting our funding round process, by helping us integrate Te Ao Māori principles as we seek ways to improve processes for potential and existing recipients
- Enhancing our data and reporting activities both for our projects and internal processes
- Supporting due diligence and regulatory reporting activities, thus ensuring that funding of projects is compliant with the requirements of the Waste Minimisation Act 2008.
- Supporting our rōpū to build capability in mātauranga Māori and our understanding of Te Ao Maōri.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ao Māori. Intermediate to fluent level of Te Reo will be a plus.
- Confidence, credibility and experience engaging and communicating with a range of organisations particularly Iwi, Hapū and other Māori-led organisations and local government.
- Commercial and non-commercial contract negotiation and management skills.
- Knowledge or understanding of the waste sector and a circular economy.
- Knowledge or experience of legislative requirements and compliance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal), at all levels including providing advice.
- Ability to set priorities and to achieve deadlines and project and programme outputs.
- Desire to influence and think creatively to achieve results.
- Positive attitude within a team environment and a solution focused approach to problem solving.
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is from $101,802 up to $124,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
