**Principal Facilitator - **Waitangi Tribunal Unit, Wellington CBD**

The Waitangi Tribunal Unit provides a comprehensive range of services to the Waitangi Tribunal, a permanent commission of inquiry that inquires into and reports on claims submitted by Māori under the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975.
The Principal Facilitator is responsible for leading the design, planning and delivery of large-scale, complex commission of inquiry processes and projects and providing high quality facilitation services in support of the Waitangi Tribunal's strategic direction. The Principal Facilitator also mentors staff and inquiry teams, and leads employees in a diverse inquiry process and project environment.
The Principal Facilitator supports the Manager Inquiry Facilitation, Chief Historian and the leadership team in enabling the Waitangi Tribunal Unit to service the development and delivery of the Tribunal's inquiry work programme. The Principal Facilitator applies broad and in-depth professional and intellectual knowledge of project management, business processes and service delivery to lead and support enduring, customer-centric service excellence.
In collaboration with the Chief Historian and research, registry and report writing team colleagues, the Principal Facilitator provides innovative thought leadership across the Tribunal inquiry programme as a whole and all forms of inquiry.

To be successful in the role you will have strong verbal and written communication and analytical skills, and the ability to plan and prioritise work. You will be able to use your initiative and be an effective communicator, as well as providing technical leadership. You will thrive in a fast-paced work environment with multiple workstreams.
We are looking for team players who are highly collaborative and able to inspire and build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
You will have a tertiary qualification in:
- New Zealand history, Māori studies, public policy, law or other relevant disciplines, and preferably a post-graduate degree or relevant professional experience.
- You will also understand, and have commitment to, the work of the Waitangi Tribunal including knowledge of te reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori.

The Inquiry Facilitation team are responsible for facilitating official Tribunal events, providing robust procedural advice, drafting judicial memoranda-directions, evidential analysis, and inquiry planning to support the Tribunal process up to and including the Waitangi Tribunal's hearing phase.
Strong analytical skills are required as is the ability to plan and prioritise work. You will be required to work closely with a wide range of people including the judiciary, Tribunal members, claimants and counsel.
You will also be required to engage with and provide advice on a variety of inquiry material such as evidence and submissions. An understanding of, and commitment to, the work of the Waitangi Tribunal is essential and an understanding of te reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori would be beneficial.

***Salary Range: The appointing salary for this role will be between $103,540 and $146,174 based on skills and experience.
