We are looking for an Investigator to join our Investigations and Compliance team in our Fair Trading branch. This is a permanent position, based in either our Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland) or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) office.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
Our Fair Trading branch is responsible for giving effect to the Commission's functions, powers, and duties under the Fair Trading Act and has full accountability for the performance outcomes of the regulatory system. This includes educating businesses about their obligations under that Act. Where appropriate you will be involved in investigating businesses potentially engaging in misleading and deceptive conduct, unfair sale practices, or making false and unsubstantiated marketing claims.
Our work is topical and relevant to all New Zealanders. In this role, you will help protect consumers to ensure clear and accurate information is provided to them and there is a level playing field for competitors.
You will be a key member of a multidisciplinary project team, where your experience will be valued as you investigate alleged breaches of the Fair Trading Act.

We are looking for someone who is naturally inquisitive, prepared to ask questions, and is known for being adaptable and resilient.

**You'll also be**:

- passionate about consumer-related issues
- confident and skilled at undertaking analysis and investigations
- a skilled communicator - comfortable presenting and interviewing, as well as creating written communications
- excellent at time management - able to prioritise your workload and successfully juggle multiple projects of varying complexity

A relevant tertiary qualification in an analytical discipline, and/or previous investigative experience is preferable.
