**About the Role**

We have a permanent, part-time 0.6FTE opportunity available to join our Central regional team as a **Vision Hearing Technician**.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide a quality vision and hearing screening service to early childhood and school aged children, across the Te Matau a Māui /Hawke's Bay district. The role also integrates health promotion strategies to promote well-being to education providers, tamariki and whānau.

Provide vision screening services in early learning services and schools in line with national protocols. Provide Vision and Hearing clinics within the Te Matau a Māui /Hawke's Bay region. Deliver the Vision and Hearing Screening component of the B4School programme.

You may be required to work within other areas of the hospital due to operational demands and you will be required to travel to our other locations within our district where our team are located.

Te Whatu Ora does not provide a travel allowance for your journey between home and work

**About the Team/Service/ Location**

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

**About you**

You are experienced or are prepared to undertake training in the field of vision and/or hearing, and can relate well with children and their families. You have a strong interest in child health and can advocate for children and the families of those who access the Vision and Hearing Screening Service. You're able to provide appropriate health education and vision and hearing related health issues and maintain accurate client records.
- Experienced or willing to undertake training in the field of vision and/or hearing
- Preferably a background in health and/or education
- Understanding of health promotion in the Aotearoa New Zealand context, including, Māori models of health, the Ottawa Charter and the determinants of health
- A current full New Zealand drivers' licence
- Working knowledge of MS Office programmes including Excel
- Able to meet the organisational requirements for working with children
- Experience with working with a wide range of cultures
- Excellent interpersonal skills with evidence of decision-making process, judgement, tolerance, confidence and understanding
- Demonstrated mature communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write and present in a clear, persuasive, and impactful way, to influence others to embrace change, and to develop, unify and maintain strong internal and external relationships essential for achieving sustainable outcomes
- Meet the statutory and organisational requirements for working with children, as per the Children's Act 2014 and Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora policy, including a satisfactory police check and other safety checking processes
